Welcome, both existing and new followers, to my WordPress site/blog, Samurai Hoppscotch! I will be documenting all of my exciting travels, friends, events, and meals for anyone trapped in front of a computer screen long enough to wander this way.

The Mission Statement
I try my hardest to be everywhere at once, so I expect to see and hear as much from you, my followers, as you will from me. The ultimate goal here is to share the world with the world, but I’ll need your help with getting to know the world first, as that would have to be the first step. I want to make friends and experiences everywhere, but on top of that, I want those friends from everywhere to be friends with each other. I realize that this sounds a little idealistic, and I’ll forgive you for being cynical, but we are headed in the direction of a global society, or a type 1 civilization, and that transition can be made much smoother by what I’m trying to do with all of you. You work more easily alongside people with whom you are more familiar, right? If the peoples of the world are to work together efficiently, we had best become friends first. This is my objective.
When you think about it, this is the perfect time for me to make my way around the world and introduce everyone. There are popular “fusion” food restaurants popping up all over the place. Guessing someone’s ethnicity is becoming harder and harder as international and interracial relationships are becoming more common. The roots of these combinations are still around, so what a perfect time to expose those roots (while they’re still here) and expedite the process of combining the better of our world’s ideas?
Where are my manners? I should have introduced myself by now…
My full name is Samuel Ross Hopper. (Hence, the name of the site. Samurai and Hoppscotch have both been nicknames/gamertags, so I decided to combine them. Clever, I know. Praise me later.) I go by Sam, Sammy, Samuel, Samael (He’s the Angel of Death, but I guess our names are similar enough to work), Samurai, Samsonite, Sam the Man, Sambino, Samothy (like Timothy), Ross, Hopper, Hoppscotch, HopperWhopper, Hoppalong, Hoppity Hop. I suppose any variation/combination of these would be acceptable as well. The point is that you call me, not necessarily what you call me.
I was born in 1991, if that sort of information is important to you. I grew up learning how to have fun in the northern suburbs of Dayton, Ohio, so I believe it’s safe to say that I am capable of having a good time anywhere. (I exaggerate. Comparatively, Ohio isn’t bad at all, but it is wonderful training if you need to practice finding creative ways to occupy your time.) I have always been heavy into the arts and sciences. I have developed obsessions with linguistics (both auditory and textual), movies, video games, biology, physics, psychology, and sociology since I’ve come to know myself, and I don’t know if I could choose any one of these over another. At the most basic level, I just like to find out how things work and try to make them better. Recently, I’ve set my sites on Earth as a whole. Yeah, I tend to be a little ambitious…
When I was 19, I was duel-majoring in biology and physics at a community college in Ohio when I moved to Los Angeles to enroll at a local film school from which I graduated on March 30th, 2012. While in California, I got a taste of all the things that I have yet to see, and it has left my thirst for travel and story parched. I always feel the need to be where I am not and to make the distance between my family, my friends, and myself a non-issue. Thus, my new directive was born. Everyone should know everyone (within reason), and we should see each other more often than never.
I know you probably hear this all the time, but I am absolutely willing to try anything. I will/want to do any kind of extreme sport, super touristy/obnoxious activity, or crazy dance, and I will eat any food. I may even do all of these things at the same time. If you want to see something, ask me to do it. I’ll do the same for you.
In closing, I hope you enjoy my adventures and their accompanying posts. Please, don’t ever be afraid to start conversations. I am always open to prompting and/or dialogue. I only ask that we keep it respectful (or at least tasteful and hilarious).
